If you're building a shed house, finishing off a weekender, or setting up a small off-grid home and you want a proper system — not a cobbled-together mess — this is the kit.
The 48V 8000VA Budget Kit is the most popular system we build. It's powerful enough to run your aircon, fridge, lights, TV, and everyday appliances without sweating it. And it's built around gear that actually lasts.
🎁 Every kit includes 3 x free 30-minute phone calls with Landon — a licensed sparky who designed this system. Use them to plan your install, troubleshoot on the day, or get your Victron app set up properly. You're not buying a box of parts and getting left to figure it out yourself.
The heart of the system. 8000VA of continuous power with a built-in charger — so if you've got a generator as backup, it handles the switching automatically. Victron is the gold standard in off-grid. There's a reason everyone uses it.
Keep an eye on your system from your phone, tablet, or the wall-mounted display. The Cerbo GX connects to Victron's free VRM portal so you can monitor from anywhere — great if the property isn't your primary residence.
The SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/100-Tr features 2 independent solar trackers, each capable of handling up to 4000W of solar input — giving you a total solar capacity of up to 8000W from a single controller. This means you can run two separate string configurations (different orientations, different roof faces) without needing a second MPPT unit.
Solar panels are sold separately — check out our range of fixed solar panels here and get in touch if you need help sizing your array for this kit.
Lithium iron phosphate — the safe chemistry. No thermal runaway, long cycle life, and rack-mounted so they look tidy in any install. 15.36kWh is what I consider a great starting point for a shouse or weekender — enough to get through a night comfortably without solar input.
The best part? The battery bank is fully scalable. As your energy needs grow, you can simply add more BSL batteries to the rack at any time. No need to replace the inverter or rewire the system — just plug in and expand. It's one of the reasons I spec this setup as a starting point rather than a ceiling.
Everything you need to wire the DC side of the system:
A professional wiring diagram is included with this kit. It's been purpose-built for this exact system so you know precisely how everything connects together — no guesswork, no Googling. Whether you're handing it to your sparky or working through the install yourself, it makes the whole job a lot smoother.
A typical shouse or weekender on this system would comfortably run:
Note: This kit does not include solar panels or solar mounting hardware. It also does not include AC wiring beyond the distribution board — your sparky will handle that on-site.
Yes — everything here is designed to be installed by a competent DIYer or licensed electrician. The DC side (batteries, inverter, MPPT) can be self-installed. The AC connections must be done by a licensed electrician to comply with Australian standards.
