Insights from the Guru Tent at the Off Grid Living Festival

I recently had the privilege of speaking in the Guru Tent at the Off Grid Living Festival, where I shared the transformative journey my family and I have taken towards a sustainable, off-grid lifestyle. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and I was thrilled by the number of questions and the level of engagement from the audience afterward.

Embracing a Simpler Life
Our shift to off grid living began with a desire to slow down and cherish every moment with my young daughters. Facing significant mental health challenges, my wife Narelle and I decided to sell everything, buy an old school bus, and start anew. We named our bus Sonny, and it has been our home as we travel and grow our business, Zero Grid, helping others embrace a similar lifestyle.

Transforming ‘Sonny’ the Bus
Sonny underwent a significant transformation to become a cozy, fully-functional home. Utilizing my skills as an electrician, I designed a unique off-grid power system, allowing us to live comfortably without traditional power sources. We focused on sustainability, from a composting toilet to large water storage and efficient appliances.

Launching Zero Grid
Inspired by our lifestyle, I started Zero Grid to design and implement off-grid systems tailored for life on the road. My approach is practical, focusing on creating systems that meet needs without excess and promote responsible energy use.

Looking Ahead
Our journey is also about building a community and learning from others who are passionate about off-grid living. As we look to the future, we plan to transition from bus life to a hobby farm, applying our sustainable practices on a larger scale.
